Obituary of Ira Paul Moses
Ira Paul “Sonny” Moses, 74, of Coffeyville passed away Friday, July 20, 2018 at his home.
He was born on April 22, 1944 at Coffeyville to J.B. and Genevieve (Gibson) Moses. Sonny grew up in Coffeyville where he attended Holy Name School and graduated from Field Kindley High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War.
On May 6, 1966 he married Jackie Means in Independence, KS. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville where they raised their family. Sonny was employed as a maintenance technician at Amazon until retiring in 2013.
Sonny was a member of Abundant Life Temple. He loved working with his hands and had the gift of being a creative visionary. But his greatest love was sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie of the home; one son, Daniel Moses and wife, Julie of Coffeyville; four daughters, Paula Head and husband, Heath of Coffeyville, Ruth Ann Fields and Jeff Finney of Tyro, Sonya Dufoe and husband, Claude of Havana, and Trisha Starnes and husband, Rocky of Coffeyville; one brother, Bill Moses of Coffeyville; three sisters, Karen Law of Grove, OK, Dianne Peters of Pryor, OK, and Patti Moses of Independence; fourteen grandchildren, Alicia Pauzauskie, Chase Decker, Cass Head, Colton Faulkner, Savanna Dixon, Tanna Tindle, Chelsey Elias, Tawna Carlson, Madison Fields, Wyatt Starnes, Emmett Starnes, Kyler Moses, Dylan Moses, and Rylee Moses; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Jim Moses, Jack Moses, and David Moses; and two sisters, Michaelle Hoggatt and Kay Houston.
A Memorial Service celebrating Sonny’s life will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Amazing Grace Chapel, 501 East 9th St., Coffeyville.
Friends may sign the register book on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials to the Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
