Obituary of A. F. "Pete" Dyer

A. F. "Pete" Dyer, 89, of Caney, Kansas passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Pete was born on May 18, 1929 to Frank and Lorena (Jones) Dyer in rural Longton, Kansas. He grew up in the Longton area where he attended Frog Hollow School and Longton High School. After graduating high school, he went on to attend college at Kansas State University, receiving a degree in Industrial Engineering. On August 11, 1950, he married Joan A. "Jo" Endicott at Bentonville, Arkansas. Following their marriage, they lived in Peru a short time then moved to the Caney area where they made their home the last sixty-six years. Pete was employed at Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, OK, for thirty-five years retiring in 1985. After his retirement, Pete continued his career with his consulting services specializing in accident investigating/litigation experiences in LP/natural gas incidents. Pete was a member of the Caney United Methodist Church and served on many church committees. He served on the Caney City Council for many years, presiding as mayor from 1997 to 2001. He also served on the USD 436 School Board for many years, including time as the president of the board. He proudly presented the diplomas to his daughters upon their graduations. He was also a member of the Caney Country Club, the Caney Chamber of Commerce. Being a KSU graduate, he was a proud member of the KSU Alumni Association and a longtime Ahearn Fund member. Survivors include two daughters, Ann (Dyer) McCullough and husband, Toby of Rossville, KS, Jane (Dyer) Hodges of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Tegan McCullough and wife, Jera of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Clint Hodges and wife, Ashley of Yukon, Oklahoma, Michael Hodges and wife, Amy of Cypress, Texas, Tayler (McCullough) Ramsey and husband Colton of Edwardsville, Kansas, Jackson Hodges and wife, Sally of Kansas City, Missouri, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lorena Dyer; his wife, Jo Dyer; brother, Donald Dyer, infant sister, Marilyn Dyer, and grandson Cole Dyer Arnold. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Caney United Methodist Church with Pastor Jinx Barber of Dewey United Methodist Church and Chaplain Jsue Wagner of Comforting Hands Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Caney United Methodist Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
