Obituary of Dorothy Ann Conklin

Dorothy Ann Conklin, 86, of Bartlesville, OK formerly of Coffeyville, KS passed away Friday, July 27, 2018 at The Journey Home in Bartlesville, OK. She was born on December 29, 1931 at McCune, KS to Clarence Raymond and Anna Christine (Johnson) Wolfe. When Dorothy was 8 years old her family moved to Neodesha, KS where she grew up and attended school graduating from Neodesha High School in 1949. After high school she attended Kansas State Teachers College (now Pittsburg State University) graduating in 1952 with a degree in Elementary Education. Dorothy started her teaching career in the fall of 1952 teaching second grade at Garfield Elementary School in Coffeyville. On June 21, 1953 she married John Richard "Dick" Conklin at Neodesha, KS. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville. In 1954 they moved to Pueblo, CO where their two daughters were born. When her daughters got older she returned to teaching. In 1971 they returned to Coffeyville where her husband was manager of the Sherwin-Williams Store and Dorothy was employed by U.S.D. #445 as a Kindergarten teacher at Whittier Elementary School until she retired in 1993 after teaching over 30 years. After retiring they continued to make their home in Coffeyville until moving to Bartlesville, OK in October 2014 to be closer to their daughter and son-in-law. Her husband preceded her in death on June 12, 2015. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and former member of the Daylight Defenders Lions Club. Dorothy enjoyed knitting, after moving to Bartlesville she enjoyed making jewelry, craft making and patio gardening. But her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Survivors include one daughter, Kay Meek and husband, Ken of Bartlesville, OK; one brother, Conrad Wolfe of Neodesha; and three grandsons, Dr. Samuel Meek and wife, Sooyoung Lee of Germany, Christopher Harrison and wife, Danielle of Tulsa, OK and John Harrison of Tulsa, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one daughter, Christy. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 3, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Coffeyville with Pastor Nicole Schwartz-Eck officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call on Thursday, August 2nd from 10 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to The Journey Home or First United Methodist Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W.
