Obituary of Betty Jean Unruh

Betty Jean Unruh, 84, of Coffeyville, KS passed away Friday, August 10, 2018.

She was born on February 5, 1934 at Red Oak, OK to Taylor E. and Dona Belle (Hilburn) White. She attended school in Red Oak, graduating in May 1952.

Jean worked as secretary to the Superintendent of Schools at Red Oak. She also worked for Weinberg's Western wear in Coffeyville from 1964 – 1977 and Bank IV from 1977 until her retirement in 1991.

On August 30, 1953, she married Milford Allen Unruh in Red Oak, OK. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville, KS, where they raised their family. Milford preceded her in death on March 30, 2010.

After retiring she enjoyed time at the lake and her grandchildren. She was an outstanding seamstress and quilter.

Jean served on the committee for the Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall in 1996. She also served as Chairperson for the Vietnam Veterans Appreciation Banquet to raise money for scholarships for veterans and their family members.

She was an avid supporter of Coffyville Community College Red Raven basketball.

Jean was a Life Member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #20.

Survivors include two sons, Tony Unruh and wife Jeanie of Coffeyville, and Kelly Unruh and wife Laura of Plainfield, IL; one sister, Billie Lewark-Woods of Dearing, KS; four grandchildren, Tony D. Unruh and wife, Katie of Overland, MO, Jennie Thompson and husband, Tony of Kansas City, MO; Josh Unruh of Emporia, KS, Tabitha Unruh of Wichta, KS, Kimber Unruh and fiancée, Travis Beebe, and Kelsey Unruh all of Arkansas; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and brother, Lloyd Lee White.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 14th at the Fairview Cemetery Veterans Memorial Patio with Father Dan Lorimer officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park.

Friends may call on Monday, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
