Sedan - Opal Ernestine Norris, age 84, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013 at her home in Elgin.
She was born August 31, 1929 in Sedan, Kansas to Claude E. Brim and Ella (Smith) Brim. She was raised in the Elgin area where she attended the Black Jack School and later went to Sedan High School.
On February 2, 1953 she married Wilbur L. Norris in Sedan, Kansas. They lived in many places until settling in Elgin, Kansas in 1991. Opal worked at Dr. Burch's in Caney for many years, also as a seamstress at Love's in Caney, Kansas. She also was a homemaker.
She attended the First United Methodist Church in Elgin, helped with the Irish Stew in Elgin, she enjoyed her chickens, gardening, sewing, and running the tiller.
She is survived by her husband Wilbur Norris of the home in Elgin; two daughters, Glenda McKinney of Columbia, Missouri, Pamela Avery and husband Steve of Caney, Kansas; one son, Russell "Rusty" Norris of Chautauqua, Kansas; six brothers, Roy Brim of Cedar Vale, Kansas, Jerry Brim of Snyder, Texas, Rex Brim of Little Rock, Arkansas, Robert Brim of Texas, Jim Brim of New Waverly, Texas, and Darrel Brim of Caney, Kansas; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Wiseman and her parents.
Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Elgin Cemetery in Elgin with Reverend Jerry Bever of the First United Methodist Church of Sedan officiating.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church of Elgin and remembrances may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
