Obituary of Phillip LeRoy Schlotfelt

Phillip LeRoy "Phil" Schlotfelt, 68, of Coffeyville passed away on October 11, 2018 at his home.

He was born on February 15, 1950 in Independence, KS to LeRoy Walter and Cleo Lois (Oneslager) Schlotfelt. Phil grew up and attended elementary school in the Liberty area, graduating from Labette County High School in Altamont.

In 1969 Phil married Connie Lafon, and in that union they had two sons, Brant and Matt. In 1981 Phil married Sheri Sueltz, and in that union they had two sons, Ryan and Kyle. They were later divorced in 2007.

In July 1976 he began his career with the Coffeyville Police Department as a dispatcher; in December 1976 he advanced to Patrolman. Phil was promoted to Sergeant in August 1981, to Lieutenant in April 1993, and to Captain in August of 1994. After 22 years of service with the Coffeyville Police Department, Phil retired in May of 1998.

Phil was a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church in Liberty, KS, Keystone Masonic Lodge #102 A.F. and A.M. in Coffeyville, Mirza Temple in Pittsburg, KS, Fraternal Order of Police, Coffeyville, former member of the Coffeyville Police Department Pistol Team, Past President of the Coffeyville Jaycee's, Past President of the Interstate Fair and Rodeo Board, 1500 Club, and Retreads (a motorcycle organization). He enjoyed shooting, riding motorcycles, boating, and camping, for the last several years Phil enjoyed being a bell ringer for the Salvation Army.

Survivors include four sons, Brant (Dale) Schlotfelt of Plano, TX, Matt (Tera) Schlotfelt of Oologah, OK, Ryan (Chelsey) Schlotfelt of Bartlesville, OK, and Kyle (Jessie) Schlotfelt of Dallas, TX; three sisters, Pat (Roy) Gregory of Afton, OK, Phyllis Lanning of Coffeyville, and Peggy (Mike) Blaes of Cherryvale; and three grandchildren, Banner Schlotfelt, Lenni Schlotfelt, and Riggs Schlotfelt all of Oologah, OK.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Service celebrating Phil's life will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at the Liberty United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Booe officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Liberty Cemetery.

The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

The family suggests memorials to the Liberty United Methodist Church of The Salvation Army; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
