Obituary of Evelyn Virginia Gorham

Evelyn Gorham passed away peacefully on October 20. Evelyn (Robinson) Gorham was born to Benjamin and Tressie Robinson in Kay County, Oklahoma, on April 21, 1925. She moved quite young to the Burbank, Oklahoma area. She attended school in the Burbank, Dewey, Bartlesville and Copan areas. Evelyn graduated from Copan High School in 1943. She married James (Jim) Gorham at the Copan Baptist Church on October 29, 1944. They had three children Jerry, Linda, and Betty Jane. They lived most of the time in the Dewey area. Evelyn was a homemaker, a member of the Copan and Bluestem Baptist Churches, Cub Scout Leader, 4H Club Leader for 9 years and Antioch Home Extension member since 1954. She was County President 2 years. She taught several people to sew, candy making, canning, gardening, upholstery, also making her families clothing. She was always helping other friends and family members. Jim worked in the oil field, working for H.C. Price on the pipeline, moving to numerous states. They came home and operated a dairy farm and assisted with others in the area with farm work. Jim then went to work for Jack Browder and Jim Ratcliff for 20 years after Copan Lake took over their farm. May of 1990, they retired to their home on their rural farm in Nowata County. During their retirement they have enjoyed traveling. Evelyn and Jim traveled to 49 different states including Alaska, as well as Canada and Mexico. After summering for several years in Texas, they settled down in Coffeyville, at Windsor Palace Nursing Home. Evelyn was survived by her husband Jim Gorham of the home, daughters, Linda Shott of Claremore and Betty Jones and her companion Tom Lynn of Grove, grandchildren James Austin of Palm Harbor, FL, Tim Gorham 0f Saline, MI, Jacey (Gorham) Waltrip of Copan, Debbie (Baker) Grayum of Shell Knob, Missouri, Pam (Baker) Chandler of Claremore, Anita (Hockett) Clubine of Havana, KS, Rusty Hockett of Bartlesville and numerous great grandchildren and great great children. Evelyn was proceeded in death by her parents, all of her brothers and many of her sisters, as well as their son, Jerry Gorham in July of 2009. Evelyn passed peacefully October 20, 2018 with Jim at her side, as well as many family members and their two closest friends, Jan and Joe from Texas. Private services will be held at a later date.
