Obituary of Virgil Marion Patchett

Virgil "Butch" Patchett, Jr., 69, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at his home. Virgil was born on July 25, 1949 in Yuba City, California to Virgil Patchett, Sr. and Barbara (Good) Patchett. As a child the family moved to Liberty, Kansas where he attended school, then to rural Coffeyville where he attended Cedar Bluff School and Coffeyville Schools. Butch was united in marriage to Rita Gillman, of that union two sons were born. The couple later divorced. In 1975 he met Mara Pollett, the two began dating in 1989 and have been with each other ever since. He loved to fish most of all and from 1993-2003 he owned and operated Virgil's Bait Shop. In 2004 he opened Patchett Construction and Glass that he owned and operated until he retired in 2016. He was a man who loved life. He didn't know a stranger and always saw the good in people. The type to always lend a hand and help out, but also would speak his mind and tell it like it is. He enjoyed going to the casino and playing slot games for fun on his computer. He loved to travel down to Texas on the beach and made a point to go to the Mardi Gras Celebration in Texas every single year. He liked to cruise the streets and he loved old cars. Those that knew him also knew he was a big flirt with all the ladies. Most of all Virgil loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Survivors include his life partner, Mara Pollett of the home; son, John M. Patchett of Coffeyville, Kansas; step son, Dickie "DJ" Pollett, Jr. and wife, Mary Ellen of Grove, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Kayla Grice, Tabbitha Ritzmann, Rebecca Raymond, Ashley Patchett, Austin Patchett, Kennedy Brown-Bailey, Aniston Pollett; seven great grandchildren; sister, Kathy Mathis of Owasso, Oklahoma; brothers, Lawrence Patchett of Georgia and Donnie Patchett of Independence, Kansas along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Following Virgil's wishes cremation has taken place. The family will be holding a Memorial Service on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Coffeyville, Kansas. Pastor Randy DePriest will officiate. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to David W. Barnes Funeral Home to help defray the cost of funeral expense for the family; these can be left with the funeral home or mailed to David W. Barnes Funeral Home 306 N. Cline, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337.
