Obituary of Donald Ray Handshumaker

Donald Ray Handshumaker, 79, of Coffeyville passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019 at his home. He was born on February 9, 1940 at Coffeyville to Lloyd and Bernice Louise (Nance) Handshumaker. Don grew up and attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School. Don was a veteran of the Viet Nam War serving in the U.S. Marine Corp for over eleven years receiving his honorable discharge in November 1968. After being discharge Don traveled the United States working as cook until settling in Branson, MO when he became a cook at Billy Bob's. After his retirement he continued living in Branson until returning to Coffeyville. He enjoyed working in the yard and gardening, but his biggest passion was always cooking. Survivors include four brothers, Steve Handshumaker and wife, Juanita of Coffeyville, Mike Handshumaker and wife, Linda of Coffeyville, Gary Handshumaker and wife, Lana of Decatur, TX, and Dale Handshumaker and wife, Karen of Grove, OK; two sisters, Bettie Hill and husband, Ray of Naperville, IL, and Sharon Caulkins and husband, Verlyn of Coffeyville; his longtime friend and caregiver, Lisa Ruark of Coffeyville and her three children, Levi Hale, Crystal Sanchez, and D.J. Smith; and Lisa's three grandchildren, Gabriel, Lianna, and Natalie Sanchez. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, PFC Lloyd E. Handshumaker in 1969; and sister Carol Sue Handshumaker in 1949. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at the Veterans Memorial Patio in Fairview Cemetery with Chaplain Mike Graham officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
