Obituary of Karen Ruth Roper

Karen Ruth Roper, 56, of Caney passed away Monday, February 25, 2019 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She was born on June 16, 1962 in Valdosta, Georgia to Edward and Gerie (Whittington) Hanlon. Karen's father was in the U.S. Air Force and the family lived in Georgia, Panama and Topeka, Kansas until moving to Caney, Kansas in 1971 where she grew up attending Caney Schools, graduating from Caney Valley High School in 1980. She also attended Coffeyville Community College. On August 27, 1983 she married Wayne Roper at the Caney United Methodist Church. Following their marriage they made their home in the Caney area where they raised their family. Karen was employed at Coffeyville Family Practice for many years before becoming a secretary at U.S.D. #436 in Caney where she was employed for 20 years. She was a member of the Tyro Christian Church in Tyro, Kansas and an active Caney Bullpup Booster. Karen enjoyed traveling, crafting, and watching the Game Show Network, but her world revolved around God and her family. She cherished the time spent with family, her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Wayne Roper of the home; her children; Ashley Roper of Coffeyville, Kendall Roper and wife, Brittany of Boise, Idaho, and Lyndsay Camper and husband, Anthony of Caney; three grandchildren; Kael Camper, Kaidyn Camper, and Jonah Roper; brothers; Chuck and Dina Hanlon of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Doug Hanlon of Caney; and sister, Pattie Foster of Caney. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Steve Hanlon. Services celebrating Karen's life will be at 3:00 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2019 at the Tyro Christian Church with Evangelist David Bycroft officiating. Burial will follow at Fawn Creek Cemetery northeast of Tyro, Kansas. In lieu of flowers they family suggests donating to the memorial of Nonie's Grandchildren's Education Fund, or the Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University.
