After graduating from KU in ‘68 I was Wayne’s Management Trainee at the Montgomery Ward store in Lawrence, KS. He trained, protected, and recommended me for a nice promotion and career path. I thank you, Wayne. He was a kind soul with high but fair expectations of his employees. I fondly remember an evening reunion at their home in Lawrence, when he removed his ‘Manager Shield’ and showed his deep humanity to Gene Bear, Charlie Zuberbueler, and this admiring Cuban. My heart aches. RIP, Wayne. Charles

Norma and Family, Ron and I are saddened to learn of Wayne's passing. He was a fine man, who loved his family and cherished his friends. He will be missed by all, but no doubt he will be missed most by all of you. His laugh will be forever engraved in my memory as it was simply infectious! You and yours will be in our thoughts and prayers in the coming days. May God bless and comfort you as only He can. I can only imagine the reunion he is having in Heaven! We met Wayne and Norma when we became neighbors 27 years ago. Wayne was always glad to see us, and loved to just have a good ol conversation. Wayne loved to come up my driveway to see my hunting dog Chief. He would always open his truck door and let him get right up in his face. What a great neighbor, and friend. I will miss seeing him make his daily drive around the mile section just to check things out. Wayne was a great man and lived his life with integrity. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Norma and his family.
