Obituary of Collette Marie Burgan
Collette Marie Burgan, 81, of Columbus, KS passed away Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Medicalodge of Columbus.
She was born on September 14, 1937 at Pittsburg, KS to William Thomas and Agnes Mae (Fuller) Thompson. Collette grew up in the Scammon and Columbus area where she attended school graduating from Columbus High School in 1955. Following high school she attended Nursing School for one year.
On October 19, 1956 she married James A. Burgan at Miami, OK. Following their marriage they made their home north of Columbus. Collette was a homemaker for many years raising their children Lisa Ann and James Fredrick. She later became a rural mail carrier until her retirement.
Collette was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Columbus and St. Rose of Lima Altar Society. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting and sewing. But her greatest joy was spending time with family especially her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Collette had several nieces and nephews that she took a loving role in their lives as their aunt. Collette was also extremely close with all her Fuller cousins and their families.
Survivors include her husband, James A. Burgan of the home; her daughter, Lisa Savage and husband, Terry of Fort Worth, TX; three grandchildren, Nolan Savage, Travis Savage and Danielle Savage all of Fort Worth, TX; three brothers, Vernon "Bud" Thompson of Honolulu, HI, William "Billy Sam" Thompson of Olathe, KS, and Lawrence "Dan" Thompson of Allen, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Agnes Thompson; her son, James Fredrick Burgan; and her sister, Vernadean "Dean" Barnes.
A Rosary Vigil Service will be at 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2019 at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Scammon, KS.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2019 at St. Bridget Catholic Church with Father Jeremy Huser officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery in Scammon.
Friends may call on Friday, April 27th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Scammon.
