Coffeyville - Paul Edward Hurley, Sr., age 83, of Coffeyville passed away peacefully early this morning (Monday, May 19, 2008) at his home with his children by his side after a battle with cancer. Paul was born in Coffeyville on August 20, 1924 to Thomas H. and Julia Ann (Sherry) Hurley. He graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School in 1942. Upon graduation, Paul went to Kansas City and enlisted in the Navy. He served 4 years during WWII as a Gunners Mate on the USS Cabot. After the war, Paul married Lorraine Teixeira in Taunton, Massachusetts. They made their home in Coffeyville where Paul was a carpenter then a letter carrier for the USPS until he retired in 1986. After retirement, he was a self-employed carpenter. Paul was an active member of Holy Name Catholic Church, was in Knights of Columbus as a 4th Degree Knight and Grand Knight for Council 991, and was a member of V.F.W. Post # 1022. He is survived by one son, Paul (Teri) Hurley, Jr.; four daughters, Anna Marie (Willis) Plute, Patricia (Brent) Drum, Debra (Mike) Baldwin, and Melissa Hurley, all of Coffeyville; 15 grandchildren, Regina Wintjen, Alicia (Richard) Yates, Ryan (Tom) Taffner, Blair Plute, Melissa (Mike) Stewart, Dawn (Preston) Jones, April (Jimmy) Swift, Paul Thomas Hurley, Brandy (Scott) McFall, Christopher (Nikole) Drum, Dustin Andrews, Desmond (Lindsey) Andrews, Dirk Andrews, Diedra Andrews, and Austin Baldwin; 13 great-grandchildren, Cory Yates, Richy Yates, Heidi Yates, Dylan Taffner, Connor Taffner, Stephanie Stewart, Jordan Jones, Raine Marie Jones, Jared Swift, Adam Swift, Charli Drum, Hurley McFall, Isabelle Andrews, and William Andrews; one brother, Thomas Hurley of Dennison, TX; and two sisters, Virginia Frey, of Spring Hill, KS; and Helen Pauzauskie of Coffeyville. Paul has been preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine; his parents; two sisters, Anna Marie Morris and Margaret Wilane; grandson, Jason Drum; and great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Wintjen. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 from 9:00am until 4:00pm at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home with a Rosary Vigil Service following at 5:30pm at Holy Name Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Holy Name Catholic Church on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 11:00am with Fr. Jerome Spexarth officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery. The family suggests memorials in Paul's memory be donated to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and Holy Name Catholic Church/School. Memorials may be left with the funeral directors or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N. Cline Rd, Coffeyville, KS, 67337.
