Sedan - Velda (Dickens) Warren passed away October 12, 2013 in Tyler, Texas at the age of 90. She was born to Charles and Alice Dickens on November 23, 1922 in Sedan, Kansas.
Velda graduated from Sedan High School in 1940. In 1943 she married Robert Slee in Kansas City, Kansas. He was killed on Iwo Jima in 1945. Velda and their son Jim returned to Sedan after his death.
On March 21, 1946 she married Bud Warren in Sedan and to this union two more children were added to their family, Don and Mickey.
While Bud worked in the oilfield, Velda stayed home to raise their children. In 1959, they moved from Sedan to Lindsay, Oklahoma. After the children were raised they returned to Sedan and went into the independent oil business.
During this time Velda was employed by the Sedan State Bank and later the First National Bank of Sedan.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Sedan.
In 1994 they moved to West Texas to be near their son Don.
Velda was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bud, son Jim, three half sisters and her half brother.
She is survived by her son Don and wife Phyllis of Whitehouse, Texas, her daughter Mickey Fisher of Whitehouse, Texas, eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Graveside Memorial Services will be held Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan with Reverend John Warring officiating.
