Obituary of Paul Earl Good
Paul Earl Good, 83, of Liberty, Kansas passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at his home in Liberty, Kansas.
Paul was born on October 21, 1935 in Independence, Kansas to Lawrence and Thelma (Thompson) Good. He grew up in Liberty where he went to grade school. He moved to San Diego, California during his junior high years. He moved back to south east Kansas where he graduated from Field Kindley High School.
Paul was an amazing athlete. He enjoyed track and field and held the record for Pole Vaulting; a few years ago the school athletic department honored him in a ceremony for being an All American Pole Vaulter. His athletic ability led to a full scholarship to Coffeyville Community College where he earned his Associate’s Degree
On September 2, 1956 he married the love of his life, Anna L. Caldwell in Coffeyville, Kansas. The couple made their life long home in Liberty, Kansas. This year they would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
Paul was a builder and liked to tinker on things. He was incredibly talented when it came to construction work. He opened his own business, Good Construction. He worked on residential and industrial projects. Along with various other jobs that people needed done. He was always there to help anyone in need.
Paul and Anna attended the Assembly of God Church for 20+ years. During this time Paul would teach the adult Sunday School class. He loved church and participated in many projects over the years. The church was just like extended family to him.
Paul served in the United States National Guard for 15 years. He was very proud of his service. Paul was a mechanic for the National Guard and earned the rank of Sargent 1st Class. He taught Karate to the Police Officers. At times he would practice his Karate with Anna; after she performed a “take down” on Paul he decided she needed to be a little easier on him during practice.
He enjoyed water sports especially skiing. He was a life guard when he lived in San Diego. He liked to take his boat out to fish. He would tinker on motors. Paul taught himself to play the banjo and the bass guitar. At his previous church he played bass guitar during services.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Anna Good of the home; daughters, Laura Wait and husband, Sheridan of Sylva, North Carolina; Teresa Good and companion, Floyd Herriman of Coffeyville, Kansas; grandchildren, Jennifer Journagan of Wichita, Kansas, Heather Graham of Maggie Valley, North Carolina; Brian Journagan and wife, Heather of Wichita, Kansas; Crystal Kitterman of Winfield, Kansas, Chelsi Lemon of Caney, Kansas; great grandchildren, Hailee, Che, Oren, Zaydie, Jacoby and Landon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Good and Thelma Lewis; brothers, James, George, Norman and Lawrence Good; sisters, Virginia Austin, Barbara Patchett and Carolyn Bybee.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 27, 2019 at the First Assembly of God with Pastor Randy DePriest officiating. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery.
Friends may call on Wednesday, June 26th from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial to the First Assembly of God; contributions can be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N Cline, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337.
