Obituary of Samuel Wayne Dollar

Samuel Wayne Dollar, 65, of Liberty, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at his home. Sam was born on September 28, 1953 in Bainbridge, Maryland to Samuel Dollar Jr. and Mildred (Birchfield) Dollar. He grew up in Enid, Oklahoma where he graduated from Enid High School class of 1971. On August 19, 1972 he married Darlene Kaiser in Enid, Oklahoma. Of that union two sons were born. The couple made their home in Hunter, Oklahoma for many years where they raised their boys. The couple later divorced. Sam's lifelong career was as an airplane mechanic. He began working for Serv-Air then for Northup at Vance Air Force Base for thirty years. He was very proud to have worked for three years as quality assurance on Air Force One. While living in Hunter, Oklahoma the family attended the Hunter Methodist Church. He and his boys helped out around the church with the upkeep and maintenance. Sam lived to raise his sons. He tried to make sure they had good work ethic and strong values to carry them through life. He encouraged them to participate in many activities like Boy Scouts, FFA, Sports, Fishing, Hunting and Camping. They raised several kinds of animals and kept a large garden. They had a wood working shop and built yard art that they would sell. He was an amazing carpenter and rebuilt an entire home. He enjoyed cooking. He won the Chili Cook-off in Maryland three years in a row. His family recalled his famous goulash and more recently his pork steaks. He also enjoyed rollercoasters and amusement parks. Surviving to cherish his memory are his sons, Sam Dollar and wife, Stephanie of Mustang, Oklahoma; Jeff Dollar and wife, Valerie of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Slade, Andre, Caden, Landry, Rhett, Haley and Andrew; brothers, Billy Dollar of Oklahoma, Larry Dollar of Liberty, Kansas, Danny Dollar of Arkansas, Richard Dollar and wife, Debbie of Oklahoma; lifelong friend, Jim Rummery of Waxhaw, North Carolina; several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Dollar, Jr. and Mildred Dollar. Cremation has taken place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
