Loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Aunt, Connie Joleen (Ryan) Stevens, of Coffeyville, passed away Sunday (April 22, 2007) at St. John's Medical Center in Tulsa, OK at the age of 65 after suffering a heart attack.
She was born December 4, 1942 in Coffeyville to Emmett C. Dorothy E. (Wagner) Ryan. She grew up in Coffeyville attending Coffeyville schools and graduating from Field Kindley High School.
On May 17, 1958 she married Dewayne Vandermark in Oklahoma. The marriage ended in divorce in January 1960. She later married Forrest Frey, Jr. on May 5, 1963 in Kansas. That marriage ended in divorce in September 1981. She then married Everett "Pete" Stevens in Kansas on October 1, 1982. They were divorced in April 1988.
Connie enjoyed organizing and operating carnivals for the Muscular Dystrophy Association for 10 years in honor of her son. She worked as a secretary at Roosevelt Middle School for several years retiring in 2003. In 2004 she became a home health care provider.
She enjoyed being with family and friends, playing bingo at Holy Name Catholic Church, playing Team Poker, and having lunch with the girls from Roosevelt.
She is survived by one daughter, Lisa (Rick) Pollett of Dearing; two sister, Sharon (Nelson) Riley of Coffeyville, and Linda (Jerry) Graham of Gulf Breeze, FL; three grandsons, Justin Jones and Dustin Jones both of Coffeyville, and Brandon Pollett of Dearing; one great-granddaughter, Jalissa Jones of Coffeyville; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Randy Vandermark, and her parents Emmett and Dorothy Ryan.
Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday (April 27, 2007) in the First Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Norton officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home. They family will receive friends on Thursday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home
The family suggests memorials to the Muscular Dystrophy Association; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337.
