Obituary of Gladys Anne Brashear

Gladys Anne Brashear, 88, passed away September 18, 2019 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville, KS.

Gladys was born to Walter Elmer and Ruth Alice (Richardson) Swenson on June 12, 1931 in Topeka, Kansas. She grew up and attended school in the Burlington, Kansas area graduating from Burlington High School. Following high school she attended Emporia State University where she graduated with a teaching degree.

Gladys married William (Bill) Brashear on December 3, 1951 at Burlington, Kansas. Following their marriage they lived in Cedar Vale for a short time before relocating to Coffeyville where they raised their family. Her husband preceded her in death on July 18, 1981.

She worked at Emerson in Independence, KS from for many years until her retirement.  She also was a homemaker and loved being a grandmother. Gladys also enjoyed gardening and caring for her cats.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Bill, one daughter, Kimberly Brashear and sisters, Alice Jones & Mary Burks.

She is survived by her children, Walter Brashear of Locust Grove, Oklahoma and his children, Adam Brashear, Audra (Jerry) Duvnal; Steven (Denise) Brashear of Houston, Texas and their children, Tim (Crystal), of Cypress, Texas, Stephanie (Dr. Marcus) Anderson of Houston, Texas, Melissa (Adam) Krejci of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Stan (Jenny) Brashear of Ozark, Missouri and their children, Katherine (Kale) Chronister of Ozark, Missouri, Chasadi Rogers of Coffeyville, Kansas; Keith (Tonya) Brashear of Mankato, Minnesota and their son, Dillon Brashear of Northfield, Minnesota; ten great-grandchildren,  brothers Georgie Swenson of Phoenix, Arizona and James Elvin (Pat) Swenson of Cleveland Missouri, and sister, Virginia (Bill) Robinett of Tecumseh, Kansas.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at the Fairview Cemetery Veterans Memorial Patio in Coffeyville. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Friends may call on Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association or Coffeyville Friends of Animals; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
