Obituary of Ronald David Lohmeyer
Ronald David “Ron” Lohmeyer, 70, of “beautiful rural Labette County”, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2019.
Ron was born in Emporia, Kansas on March 1, 1949, to Raymond and Bonnie (Gardner) Lohmeyer He grew up in Osage City, Kansas where he attended school. He completed his education and became a stone mason.
At the age of 18 he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During his service he was seriously wounded in combat. He returned home but was permanently disabled. He received an honorable discharge and numerous medals and decorations that included the National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal One Overseas Bar, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Purple Heart w/1st OLC Army Commendation Medal w W/”V” DVC Expert (M-14), Expert (M-16), Expert (Hand Grenade)
On February 15, 1969 Ron was married to Heather McFarlane in Burlingame, Kansas. The couple made their home in rural Labette County, Kansas. The union produced two children, Chad and Melinda. The couple later divorced.
In 2007, Ron met Chris Casmaer, they connected instantly and were together until Ron’s passing. They enjoyed socializing with friends and were active with the V.F.W. Post 1022 and American Legion Post 20 in Coffeyville. They also enjoyed traveling and watching western movies.
Ron was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved to travel and drive on road trips. When he wasn’t watching westerns, Ron enjoyed the History Channel, specifically the show Ancient Aliens. He loved attending his kids and grandkids activities and sporting events. In addition to being a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Ron proudly served on the local Military Honor Guard.
Ron is survived by his children, Chad Lohmeyer and wife, Christie of Wichita, Kansas; daughter, Melinda Patterson and husband, Matt of Auburn, Kansas; grandchildren, Dylan, Gavin and Owen Lohmeyer, Brady and Raegan Patterson; brothers, James Lohmeyer and wife, Gail, Bernard Lohmeyer and wife Velma all of Osage City, Kansas; companion, Chris Casmaer of Coffeyville, Kansas; numerous nieces, nephews, relative and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Bonnie Lohmeyer; brother, Quinten Lohmeyer who passed away in an accident while Ron was overseas and his sister, Nancy Thurston.
Graveside Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Veterans Patio at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville. Military honors will be provided by the V.F.W. Post 1022 and American Legion Post 20 Military Honor Guard. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date in Osage City, Kansas.
The family suggests memorials to the V.F.W. Military Honor Guard; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
