Mary Ann Shufeldt, 81, of Coffeyville, Kansas went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

Mary Ann was born on July 16, 1938 in Coffeyville to Edgar and Lucille (Brockman) Richey.  She grew up in Coffeyville where she went to Cedar Bluff Grade School and Field Kindley High School where she earned her high school diploma.

In 1962, Mary Ann was married to Paul Jenkins in Lawrence, Kansas.  Together they had two children, Lori and Lisa.  The couple later divorced.  In 1966, she was married to Eugene Shufeldt in Mendota, California.  Together they had two children, Earl and Roberta.  Eugene had two children from a previous marriage, Charlie and Macie.  All together this created one big happy family.  They lived in Valsetz, Oregon for a short time then returned to south east Kansas where they made their home in Edna.  In 1989, they moved to Coffeyville after her father passed so she could help take care of her mother.  Eugene preceded her in death on November 23, 2000.

In 2011, Mary Ann moved into Sycamore Landing in Coffeyville.  She enjoyed living there and the friends she made.  She served on the activity planning committee there and participated in many of the weekly activities and dinners they had.  Also in 2011, Mary Ann met Tom Bailey; after spending time together, they became a couple and have been together for the past 8 years.

Mary Ann was strong in her faith and loved the Lord.  She was a member of the Central Baptist Church in rural Coffeyville where served as the Secretary for many years.  She worked at the Edna Café for more than 15 years as a cook; Mary Ann was a great cook and was famous for her homemade rolls and pies.  She was good at sewing, the kids referred to her as the family tailor.  She loved frogs and had a collection of frog items and figurines.  She loved life and was very active; she went to as many of the grandkids activities as she could and maintained close relationships with her children.  She will be dearly missed by all those that knew her.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Lucille Richey; husband, Eugene Shufeldt; sister, Carol Lacey and a great grandson, Landon Johnson.  Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Lori Johnson and husband, Joe of Edna, Lisa Starrett and husband, Larry of Coffeyville, Earl Shufeldt and wife, Denise of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, Roberta Sonnier of Coffeyville, Charlie Shufeldt and wife, Susan of La Center, Washington, Macie Garr and husband, Terry of Caney, Kansas; eleven grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; brother, Sam Richey and wife, Barb of rural Coffeyville; sisters, Earlene Haley of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Betty Pope of Shawnee, Oklahoma; boyfriend, Tom Bailey of rural Coffeyville; numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
