Obituary of Roy L. Carr

Roy L. Carr, 62, of Blue Eye, Missouri former longtime Coffeyville resident passed away Saturday, September 28, 2019 at his home.

He was born on April 10, 1957 in Coffeyville to Wayne Leroy and Nadine (Hager) Carr. Roy grew up and attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School.

Roy was a longtime Railroad Engineer for Union Pacific Railroad retiring on March 1, 2017.

On August 5, 1977 he married Deborah Akers. They made their home in Coffeyville until moving to Arkansas in 1984 where they lived until returning to Coffeyville in 1990. They had two children, Jennifer and Luke. They were later divorced in 1995.

On May 16, 1998 he married Melinda (Sowell) Swigart. Following their marriage they made their home in the Coffeyville area until June of this year when they moved to their new home in Blue Eye, Missouri.

Roy was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Coffeyville. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He enjoyed golfing, boating, woodworking, hunting and fishing. But most of all loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Melinda of the home; one daughter, Jennifer Stapleton her husband, Jake and their children, Neva and Vera all of Kansas City, Missouri; one son, Luke Carr his wife, Jamie and their children, Hadley and Bailey all of Coffeyville; one step-daughter, Monica Logan her husband, Curtis and their children, Christian, Tayllar, Seth and Kaelyn all of Kansas City, Missouri; his mother, Nadine Carr of Coffeyville; two sisters, Juanita Handshumaker and husband, Steve of Coffeyville and Delores Blevins and husband, Tom of Coffeyville; and one brother, Ivan Carr and wife, Teri of Coffeyville.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Carr; and step-son, Matthew “Matt” Swigart.

Services celebrating Roy’s life will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at the First Southern Baptist Church, 2701 W. 8th St. in Coffeyville with Pastor Bill Eubanks officiating. Burial will follow in Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the First Southern Baptist Church.

The family suggests memorials to the Inter-State Fair and Rodeo Association; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
