Johnie C. Broker, 81, of South Coffeyville, OK, passed away Saturday morning (April 7, 2007) at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
Johnie was born September 23, 1925 in rural South Coffeyville, Oklahoma to John and Dora (Humes) Broker. He grew up in rural South Coffeyville and attended York School.
He was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Navy.
On June 10, 1951 he married Ruth (Moon) Clark in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Coffeyville by Rev. Fred Kramer from Winfield, KS. They were married 55 years.
The couple made their home in rural South Coffeyville where he farmed and raised cattle. Mr. Broker also worked for Ludowici-Celadon Chemical Roof and Tile Co.; he later worked at Sherwin-Williams Chemical Co. where he was employed for 28 years, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, he served his church as elder and usher, and he was also a member of the American Legion.
Johnie enjoyed reading, fishing, camping, gardening, and wild life; he especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth of the home in rural South Coffeyville; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Lelia Baker, Julia (Brown) Most, and Ethel (Pruitt) Beal.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday (April 12, 2007) at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Coffeyville with Rev. Richard E. Peckman officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park with military honors conducted by Elliott-Funston-White V.F.W. Post #1022 in Coffeyville.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family requests memorials to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, contributions may be left with the funeral home.
