Obituary of Verlyn Dean Caulkins

Verlyn Dean Caulkins, 78, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Monday, November 11, 2019 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Verlyn was born on May 26, 1941 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Wallace and Jessie (Clara) Caulkins. He grew up in Coffeyville where he attended local schools and graduated from Field Kindley High School in 1959. He worked for Parmac as a machinist for fifty years. He retired in 2004. On August 26, 1961 he married the love of his life, Sharon Handshumaker at the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville. The couple made Coffeyville their home where they raised their three children. He was a member of the Baptist Church and the International Machinist Organization. Verlyn was employed as a machinist at Parmac for nearly 50 years. He enjoyed motorcycles, prior to joining the Navy Verlyn owned Caulkins Motorcycle Shop in Coffeyville, in later years he enjoyed restoring vintage motorcyles. He also enjoyed working on computers, . Most of all he loved the time he spent surrounded by his family and friends. Verlyn is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Caulkins of the home; children, Alan Caulkins of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Angela and husband, Brian Meyer of Wichita, Kansas, Brian Caulkins and wife, Megan also of Wichita, Kansas and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Jessie Caulkins and four brothers. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 15, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Fellowship in Coffeyville, Kansas. Pastor Doug Mund will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville. Military honors will be provided by the Coffeyville V.F.W. Post 1022 and the American Legion Post 20. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at David W Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. Family will greet friends Thursday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The family suggests memorials can be made to the Veterans Memorial Patio at Fairview Cemetery; contributions can be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W Barnes to 306 N Cline Rd Coffeyville, Kansas 67337.
