Obituary of Christie J. Engel

Christie J. "Mim Mim" Engel, 60, of Nowata, Oklahoma formerly of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Sunday, November 24, 2019 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

She was born on February 4, 1959 at Enid, Oklahoma to Earl Marvin and Betty (Nickel) Porter. When she was young her family moved to Coffeyville where Christie grew up and attended school graduating from Field Kindley High School and Coffeyville Community College.

On April 20, 1985 she married Tom Engel in Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville where they raised their three children. Christie was employed at Coffeyville Community College, Condon National Bank, Community National Bank and was cashier for Lay's Auction Service for several years. Christie and Tom moved to Nowata in 2015.

Christie enjoyed bowling and going to auctions when she wasn't working one, but her greatest love was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed spoiling her fur babies, T, Jade and Libby.

Survivors include her husband, Tom Engel of the home; her daughter, Kylie Johnson and fiancé, Dan Streetman of Colorado; her sons, Michael Engel and fiancé, Samantha Foster of Nowata, Oklahoma, and Dillon Engel and wife, Abigail of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, MaKenzi, Ashlyn, Adaline, and Bryndal; her mother, Betty Porter of Woodward, Oklahoma; her sister, Judie Parsons of Woodward, OK ; her mother-in-law, Donna Engel of Independence, her sister-in-law, Christina Slaton of Independence; and numerous nieces and nephews. She also had several "adopted" sons that she loved like her own; Joseph Cole, David Case, Patrick Whelan, Dylan Hilton and Josh Knisley.

She was preceded in death by her father, one brother, Mike Porter; one grandson, Landon; and her father-in-law, Wayne Engel.

A Memorial Service celebrating Christie's life will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the First Church of God, 2010 W. 5th St., Coffeyville, with Pastor Mark Wilson officiating.

Friends may sign the register book on Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to Alzheimer's Association, the ALS Association, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or to the bench being made in Christie's memory; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W.
