Obituary of Duce Edward Washington

Duce Edward Washington, 72, of Leavenworth, Kansas passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at his home. 

Duce was born on September 6, 1947 in Lenapah, Oklahoma to Earlie and Margaret Viola (Scott) Washington.  He grew up in the Lenapah area where he went to school and graduated from Lenapah High School. 

On September 29, 1966 he was drafted into the United States Army where he served in Vietnam as a Medical Corpsman in an Operating Room and achieved the rank of SP5.  He was awarded an honorable discharge on September 26, 1969.  However due to his exposure to Agent Orange he was permanently disabled upon returning home. 

His hobbies were watching sports and westerns on television and enjoyed drinking his McCormick whiskey.  Most of all he loved the time he spent with his family and friends. 

Surviving to cherish his memory are his children, Shantay and D’Juan Washington; grandchildren; sisters, Deborah Washington Scott and Vicki Shelton; brother, Wesley Washington; aunts, Clara Allen, Sue Hackney Allen, Marie Cherry and Shirley Quarles; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, close family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Earlie and Margaret Washington; brother, Bobby L. Washington; niece, Elizabeth Washington Jones and great-nephew Arterrious Tyreck Jones. 

Home Going Services for Duce will be held on December 14, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the 1st Sardis Missionary Baptist Church in Coffeyville.  Pastor Armogen B. Walker, Sr. will officiate.  Burial will follow at the Hickory Creek Cemetery near Lenapah, Oklahoma.  Military Honors will be provided by the Coffeyville V.F.W. Post 1022, American Legion Post 20 and the U.S. Army Honor Detail of Fort Sill, Oklahoma. 

Visitation will be held on December 13, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at David W Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. 

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the funeral home to help defray the cost of funeral expense; these can be left with the funeral home or mailed to David W. Barnes Funeral Home 306 N Cline Rd, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337.
