Lee Russell Jones, Sr., age 94, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Thursday morning, April 5, 2007 at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan, Kansas.
He was born October 30, 1912 in Sedan, Kansas to Claud and Grace (Beemer) Jones. He attended and graduated from the Sedan High School in 1930. He married Maxine Elizabeth Moreland on July 3, 1937 in Nowata, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on August 12, 1995. He with his brother owned and operated Jones Brothers Oil Company for many years until retiring. He lived in Sedan for many years and moved to Pleasant Valley Manor in August of 1999.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Sedan, Eastern Kansas Oil and Gas, and a former member of the Sedan City Council and the Sedan Country Club. He was one of the original investors of the Bowling Alley and Nursing Home.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching baseball and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Lee Russell Jones, Jr. and his wife, Pat of Sedan, Kansas; three grandsons, Mike Jones and his wife Michelle of rural Sedan, Kansas, Matt Jones of Sedan, Kansas and Mark Jones and his wife Susan of Ellicott City, Maryland and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Maxine; two brothers and two sisters.
Family and friends may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday, April 6, from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday, April 7, and from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 9, 2007 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
A Memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, April 9, 2007 at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan, Kansas with Reverend Myrna Jones officiating. A private family burial will be held.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home and these remembrances may be left in care of the funeral home.
