Obituary of Charles DePriest

Charles O DePriest, 85, left this earthly home to be with his Savior, Jesus on January 4, 2020. Charles was born to Noel and Lenora DePriest in McDonald County, Missouri. He and his family moved to Caney, Kansas in 1948. Charles graduated from Caney Valley High School in 1954. That same year he married Marilyn Close and they had three children to make their family complete.
Charles worked for various individuals while attending school, was co-owner of M&D Oil Company and retired from Charles Wheatley Company. He was a dedicated and loving family man and always had a pleasant word for everyone. He also enjoyed working on several collections and when he was able would walk 2 miles a day. Charles was a member of the Caney United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Charles Wayne DePriest, three brothers, one sister, and one great grandson.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn, son Brian DePriest, daughter Doris Johnston, grandson Ethan Johnston, granddaughter Jennifer DePriest, a great grandson Brandon, and his brother Keith DePriest.
Following Charles’ wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas.
A Memorial Service celebrating Charles’ life will be held at the Caney United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Stan Basler officiating. Private family inurnment will be in the Havana Cemetery in Havana at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Caney United Methodist Church 114 North High, P.O. Box 217 Caney, Kansas.
David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville in is charge of arrangements.
