Obituary of Mary Virginia Armstrong

Mary Virginia Armstrong, 87, of Independence former longtime Coffeyville resident passed away on March 6, 2020 at her home. She was born on February 13, 1933 at Mulberry, Kansas to Lyle Harm and Bertha Maude (Twomely) Kalm. When she was young her family moved to the Coffeyville area where she attended school completing her education at Field Kindley High School. She married Ira Parker. Following their marriage they made their home in Dearing. Mr. Parker preceded her in death in 1967. She later married Gene Armstrong, they were later divorced. Mary was employed at the U.S.D. 445 Food Service for over 30 years and loved serving several generations of students. She was a member of Lewark Church of God in Coffeyville, and AARP. Mary loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include one son, Matthew Parker of Wichita, Kansas; one daughter, Gayla Corser of Independence, Kansas; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Mark Curtis Armstrong and Rusty Eugene Scott; and one sister, Roberta M. Davis. Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2020 at the Lewark Church of God with Pastor Darrin Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville. Friends may call on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
