Alvin Donald “Don” Gaston, 87, of Coffeyville, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville, Kansas. Don was born on July 19, 1932 in Sharon, Oklahoma to Roy Ebon and Minnie Mae (Steadman) Gaston. He graduated from Sharon, Oklahoma High School. He attended college at Salt Lake City, Utah and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he received his Bachelor’s Degree. On December 3, 1954 he was united in marriage to Marjorie Leola Baldwin at the Baptist Church in Woodward, Oklahoma. Following their marriage they lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, Big Spring, Texas and Enid, Oklahoma where Don was stationed with the U.S. Air Force. His wife preceded him in death on February 23, 2016. Don was retired U.S. Air Force, a Cattleman, and a Montgomery County Road and Bridge Supervisor. He was a member of the Tyro Christian Church, Caney Lions Club, a big supporter of the Caney Bullpups football and basketball programs, enjoyed golfing, and loved spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his children, Beverly Freeman and husband, Mike of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Jerry Gaston and wife, Beverly of Coffeyville, Kansas; grandchildren, Jeremy Gaston and wife, Amber of Independence, Kansas, Justin Gaston and wife, Megan of Independence, Kansas, Brooke McClure and husband, Clinton of Lawrence, Kansas; brother, Garland Gaston of Noble, Oklahoma; sisters, Alta Lively of Guymon, Oklahoma and Katy Osborn of Mustang, Oklahoma; six great grandchildren and one on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Minnie Gaston; loving wife, Marjorie Gaston and by his son, Terry Gaston on June 4, 2012. A Private Family Graveside service will be in Fawn Creek Cemetery northeast of Tyro with Military Honors conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1022 and American Legion Post #1022. Visitation will be on Friday, March 27th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Tyro Christian Church in Tyro, Kansas The family suggests memorials to the Caney Lions Club; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
