Othol L. Hackleman, 84, of Coffeyville, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013 at his home.
He was born July 27, 1929, west of Vinita, OK to Floid and Nellie (Oliphant) Hackleman. When he was young his family moved to Labette County, KS where he grew up and attended Piney Hill rural school and graduated from Chetopa High School in Chetopa, KS.
Othol was a veteran the Korean War serving in the U.S. Marine Corp.
On October 22, 1954 he married Verna Gay Jones at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in the Edna area until moving to Coffeyville in 1981.
Othol was a machinist and supervisor at Funk Mfg. Co. (now John Deere Coffeyville Works) for many years until retiring in the early 1990's.
He was a member of the American Legion, an avid football fan, enjoyed reading western books, and traveling with his wife.
Survivors include his wife, Verna of the home; two sons, John Lee Hackleman of Tulsa, OK, and Daryl Dean Hackleman of Aurora, CO; one daughter, Karla Collins of Coffeyville; one brother Basil Hackleman of Springfield, MO; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Velma Tullis.
Following Othol's wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating his life will be at 5:00 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2013 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
Friends may sign the register book on Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
