Warren L. Nielsen, 77, of Coffeyville passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at Chetopa Manor in Chetopa, Kansas. He was born on August 9, 1942 at Idaho Falls, Idaho to Victor L. and Sarah Lucille (Green) Nielsen. Warren was the son of an Air Force Officer (WWII fighter pilot and Base Commander) and had the opportunity to live and attend school in various places in the United States and overseas, he completed his education graduating from the University of Utah. On April 29, 1994 he married for all time and eternity JoLene Burroughs at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Dallas Texas Temple. Following their marriage they made their home in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Goddard, Kansas before moving to the Coffeyville area in 2004. JoLene preceded him in death on May 29, 2015. Warren was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving over 20 years and retired with the rank of Captain. While serving in the Air Force he was a Master Parachutist, he served two tours of duty in Korea and Vietnam as Division Weather officer 1st Calvary. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Warren was also a Lifetime member of the Air Commandos Association and the Grey Beret Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two brothers, Carl Nielsen and Victor Nielsen. Survivors include brother Robert Nielsen and wife Jani, his children, Jason Layman, Barry Nielsen, Diana Nielsen, Suzanne Bryant and husband, Jeff. Warren has numerous nephews, nieces, brothers and sisters in law that he loved very much. Warren was extremely proud of his grandchildren: Preston, Jade, Hailyn, Addison, Asher, Tyler, Cameron, Christopher, Monson, Jacob, Annabelle, James and great grandchildren Julianna, Asher, and Brooklyn. Graveside Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2020 at the North Edna Cemetery in Edna Kansas. Friends may call on Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Missionary Fund; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
