Obituary of James D Cook, Sr.

James D. “Jim” Cook, Sr., age 93, of Edna, Kansas passed away on Friday, May 15, 2020 at CRMC in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Jim was born on September 22, 1926 in Coffeyville, Kansas to William Frank Cook and Daisy Mae (Knisley) Cook. He grew up in Coffeyville where he attended local school and graduated from Field Kindley High School.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army, earning the rank of Corporal. He was honorably discharged. Upon returning from duty he built his own business in the pump jack industry. He became the owner and operator of Cook Pump Company in Coffeyville. Jim recently retired just this year from his successful Cook Pump Co. after 62 years of hard work, service and dedication.
In 1955 Jim’s father and uncles built the Golden Spur Motel in Coffeyville. It then was passed along to Jim who renamed it the Regal Inn and he was the owner and operator of the motel for over 25 years.
On one very special Valentines Day in 1946 he married his sweetheart, Maxine L. Wilson in Coffeyville, Kansas. This year celebrating 74 wonderful years together. The couple made their home in Coffeyville. They had two children, James “Jim” Cook, Jr. and Pamela L. Cook.
In 1982 Jim and Maxine moved to rural Labette County, Kansas and have resided there ever since. Jim was a member of the Assembly of God Church which he and Maxine attended regularly. He was a member of the Keystone A:.F:. & A:.M:. Masonic Lodge #102 in Coffeyville. For 43 years he raised Charolais Cattle. He loved horses and enjoyed hunting, boating, fishing and all the family gathering, his time with his loving family and friends was what always meant the most.
Jim is survived by his wife Maxine; son, James Cook, Jr and wife, Christine; his sister, Shirley Roberts; He is also survived by four grandchildren, Amy Hough, Darrin Cook, Mandie Wall and Ryan (Erin) Wall; ten great-grandchildren, Kylie, Kaitlyn, Claire, Malia, Jacob, Dalton, Brennon, Gavin, Fletcher and Caroline. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Daisy Mae and by his daughter, Pamela L. Wall, his six brothers, Donald, Frankie, Marvin, Bill, Raymond and Jack and his sister, Betty Wintle.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 18, 2020 from 10 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. for friends to sign the guest register at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
Graveside Services will take place with the family at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas where Jim will be laid to rest.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association and may be left at the funeral home or mailed in C/O David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N. Cline Rd., Coffeyville, Kansas 67337.
