Sedan - Barbara Ann Bever, 65, of Sedan passed away Friday (March 30, 2007) at Mercy Hospital in Independence. She was born March 5, 1942 at Coffeyville to Eugene and Anna Ruth (Miller) Templer. She grew up in rural Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School in 1960. Following high school she attended Kansas State Teachers College at Pittsburg School of Cosmetology. On August 26, 1961 she married Jerry Bever at rural Coffeyville. Following their marriage she owned and operated her own beauty shop in Edna, KS for a year, then continued working as a beautician until 1963 when they began their family. She also owned and operated a tropical fish business. Later Barbara worked for ACC in Independence as a hazardous communications clerk. She retired after 17 years due to her health, but continued to serve the Lord through Lay ministries. She was a member of the Sycamore United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was also actively involved with PTA serving at both the local and state levels. Barbara joined her husband's ministry at the Dearing and Liberty United Methodist Churchs from 1991 to 2001, and continued from 2001 until the present at the Sedan, Cedar Vale, Wauneta and Elgin United Methodist Churchs. Survivors include her husband, Jerry of the home; daughter, Rebecca "Becky" and Jim Butts and granddaughter, Victoria Butts all of Mound Valley, KS; daughter, Christy and Robert Dunham and grandchildren, Ashley, Amberlea, and Lee Dunham all of Independence; and son, John and Rayvenna Bever and grandchildren, Austan, Jordan, and Madison Bever, and Tiffany and Greg Hulse all of Sedan;. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. Memorial Services will be a 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (April 3, 2007) in the First United Methodist Church in Sedan with Rev. Bill Booe of the Sycamore United Methodist Church officiating. Friends may sign the register book on Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan or Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to the Sycamore United Methodist Church or to one of the Church's Jerry and Barbara serve in Chautauqua County; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W.
