Obituary of Curtiss W. George

Dr. Curtiss W. George, D.C., 75, of Coffeyville passed away Saturday, May 16, 2020, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. He was born on May 2, 1945 at Cushing, Oklahoma to Dr. Herbert B. and Doris L. (Gray) George. The family moved to Coffeyville when Curtiss was young where he grew up and attended school, graduating from Field Kindley High School in 1963. Curtiss continued his education at Coffeyville Community College graduating 1965 and began his studies at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. After graduating he returned to Coffeyville and joined his father Dr. H.B. George in his Chiropractic Clinic. On June 23, 1967 he married Linda Carol Wood at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in Davenport, IA while Curtiss was attending Chiropractic School. After completing his education they returned to Coffeyville where they raised their four daughters. Curtiss was a member of the Coffeyville Church of Christ. He was very active in the community serving as president of the Jaycees, Lions Club. Curtiss was an avid photographer, he also enjoyed flying remote controlled airplanes for many years and model train building. He was a certified scuba diver. Curtiss loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Linda of the home; three daughters, Cyndi Weston and husband Paul of Baxter Springs, KS, Misti Secrest and husband, Tim of Newcastle, OK, and Melinda Henry and husband, Raymond of South Coffeyville, OK; one sister, Allene Knedlik and husband, Ron of Gamaliel, AR; four grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. H.B. and Doris George; one daughter Caryn Beth George on March 5, 1998; and one brother, Jeffrey George. A celebration of Curtiss' life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 27, 2020 at the Coffeyville Church of Christ. Private family inurnment will be next to his daughter in Spring Hill Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the George Family Memorial Scholarship established at Coffeyville Community College; contributions may be left with or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
