Shirley Darlene (Lair) Johnson, 89, of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma passed away on Monday, July 20, 2020 at her home. Shirley was born on May 27, 1931 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Charles and Dollie (Brashear) Lair. She grew up in Coffeyville where she attended local schools and graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School. In 1959 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Jack L. Johnson in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville where Shirley was Assistant Chief Operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. In 1967 they moved to Mesquite, Texas when Shirley was transferred to Southwestern Bell Telephone Company main office in Dallas, Texas. She retired from the phone company after 38 years of service in 1991. The couple returned to South Coffeyville, Oklahoma in 2011. For several years they would spend summers on the farm near South Coffeyville and return to Mesquite during the winter months. Shirley enjoyed cooking, growing flowers and most of all loved the time she spent surrounded by her family. Surviving to cherish her memory is her loving husband, Jack Johnson of the home; son, Jay Johnson and wife, Kimberlee of Rockwall, Texas; granddaughter, Alicia Johnson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Dollie Lair and by her brother. Graveside Services will be held on Friday, July 24, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Veteran Patio at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville with Chaplain Scott Taylor of Cornerstone Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, July 23, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. to sign the guest register at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
