Albert Phillip Jordan, 86, of Coffeyville, passed away Monday (March 19, 2007) at Via Christi Medical Center St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
Mr. Jordan was born March 26, 1920 in Coffeyville to William Thomas and Esther Elizabeth (Butler) Jordan. Albert grew up in Coffeyville where he received his education graduating from Field Kindley High School in 1938. Following high school he attended Coffeyville Junior College.
In 1940, he married Violet Clough. They later divorced.
He married Barbara Thornton VanWinkle in December 1955 at Coffeyville.
Albert served in the U.S. Army during World War II; he saw combat action in the Rhineland and Central Europe. He was discharged in April 1945 as a Tec 5.
He worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a pipe fitter and the Page Milk Company before beginning employment at Farmland Refinery (now Coffeyville Resources) where he worked 32 years retiring in 1982.
Albert was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Coffeyville, and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara of the home; two daughters, Phillis Rumpp of Washington, D.C., and Sharon Bryant of Mesa, AZ; one son, Richard "Dick" VanWinkle of Coffeyville, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Herbert S. Jordan, and two sons, Jack Howard VanWinkle and Robert Lewis VanWinkle.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday (March 22, 2007) in the First Southern Baptist Church with Rev. Rich Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery at Liberty, KS
Friends may call on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
