Obituary of Lorene E. Gatewood

Lorene Emma Gatewood, 91, of Coffeyville passed away Sunday, August 30, 2020 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. She was born on November 17, 1929 at Coffeyville to Harold and Frances (Stuckey) Davis. Lorene grew up and attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School. While in high school Lorene was working at Crow Drug Store when she met the love of her life Clyde Gatewood. On December 28, 1948 Lorene was united in marriage to Clyde Gatewood at her parents' home. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville where they raised their two daughters, Carla and Arma. Lorene worked for Standfield Farm Equipment, Automotive Control Corp, and Haliburton. After Haliburton closed she began working at Medicalodge and later at Asbury Village. Lorene loved animals especially dogs and cats, she was very involved with protecting animal rights. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden, but most of all loved being surrounded by her family and pets. Survivors include her husband, Clyde Gatewood of the home; one daughter, Arma Gatewood of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one granddaughter, Natalie Donaldson of Galena, Alaska; and one great-grandson, Gabriel Sumner of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, one sister, and one daughter, Carla Almond in 2017. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 4, 2020 at Restlawn Memorial Park with Pastor Doug Mund of Grace Fellowship officiating. Friends may call on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorial to Coffeyville Friends of Animals; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W.
