Richard "Bud" Twitchell, age 90, of Tyro, Kansas passed away on Friday, September 11, 2020 at his home,
Bud was born on April 30, 1930 in Dearing, Kansas to Sam and Alma (Manus) Twitchell. He grew up in Dearing where he also attended school.
Bud was drafted into the United States Army where he served in Baltimore during the Korean War. He earned the rank of Corporal during his service. He proudly served his country and was honorably discharged.
On February 5, 1965 he married the love of his life, Joyce Schmidt in Independence, Kansas. Places they lived were Independence, Kansas, Coffeyville, Kansas, Weskan, Kansas and Syracuse, Kansas. The couple were members of the Tyro Christian Church.
Bud collected coins, watches and knives. He read all the Louis L'Amour books and he loved watching John Wayne movies and drinking coffee. Most of all he loved the time he spent surrounded by his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Twitchell of the home; children, Gay Kirkland and husband, Karl of Tyro, Kansas, Pam Tittle and husband, Mike of Anchorage, Alaska; Roger Twitchell and wife, Elaine of Joplin, Missouri, Louis Twitchell and wife, Sonya of Tyro, Kansas, Melissa Toland of Tyro, Kansas, son-in-law Robert Osburn of Florida; seventeen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Alma Twitchell; daughter, Kim Osburn on August 1, 2020; six brothers and four sisters.
Following Bud's wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Memorial Services will be held on October 10, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Tyro Christian Church with David Bycroft officiating.
