Eliza Lea "Penny" McCarter, 91, of Lamar, MO, and former longtime Coffeyville resident passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at the Truman Healthcare Center in Lamar, MO.
She was born March 2, 1917 at Coffeyville to Harry and Elvie (Fisk) Knisley. She grew up and attended school in Coffeyville where she graduated from high school.
On July 8, 1934 she married Harold McCarter at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville. Harold preceded her in death in June 1994.
Penny was a homemaker, and had worked in the Lab at the Co-op Refinery, was a clerk at Read's Department Store, she was also employed as a telephone operator. She later attended Beauty College and worked as a beautician.
She was a longtime member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Coffeyville, she also was a member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) and Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include one son, Harold D. "Doug" McCarter of Lamar, MO; one daughter Harriett Sue Lindsay of Las Cruces, NM; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Following Penny's wishes cremation has taken place and a private family interment service will be at a later date in Restlawn Memorial Park.
