Coffeyville - Roderick L. Walker, 84, of Coffeyville passed away Thursday morning (March 15, 2007) in Coffeyville Regional Medical Center He was born May 8, 1922 at Altamont, Kansas to Woodford and Beulah (Chaney) Walker. He grew up in the Altamont area where he attended school. Mr. Walker was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army Infantry; he served over 200 days on the front lines. On November 20, 1943, he married Billie Andrews at Labette, Kansas. Following their marriage they made their home in the Altamont area until moving to Valeda where they lived for 42 years before moving to their home Coffeyville in 1996. Mr. Walker was employed at Kanoma Co-op as a rural delivery truck driver for over 20 years retiring in 1987. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Coffeyville, and V.F. W. Survivors include his wife, Billie of the home; his children, Terry and Patty Walker of Oswego, and Barbara and David Cook of Coffeyville; two brothers, Fred Walker of Marietta, Oklahoma, and Jerry Walker of Trinity, Texas; three sisters, Edith Gage of Lake Mathews, California, Judy Wilson of Oswego and Linda Wittner of Oswego; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (March 17, 2007) in the First Southern Baptist Church in Coffeyville with Reverend Rich Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Altamont Cemetery in Altamont, Kansas. Friends may call on Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337.
