Obituary of Ronald Merle Riggs

Ronald Merle Riggs, 75, of Coffeyville "Ronnie" as called by his family, met the Lord on December 5, 2020 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center after being admitted for Covid. He was born October 10, 1945 in Oswego, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Rita Wilson of the home, his sister Jana Zinter, brother-in-law Steven Zinter of Joplin, MO, nephew Shelby Neal and wife Laura Neal of Dallas, TX, two nieces Shawna Lane, husband Brandon Lane and Shannon Pastusak and Tyler Pastusak, both of Joplin. He also had six great nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, James Merle Riggs and Vera (Uttley) Riggs of Joplin. Ron was a devoted teacher and loved his students. He was very active in school activities. He earned multiple teaching awards with the most prestigious being 25 Years of Service Teaching of Youth award. Ron was also proud of receiving his Master of Science Degree from Pittsburg State University. He was a member of the Kansas Teachers Association. Ron loved life. He was a very generous man with a heart of gold. He was always ready to help someone whether he knew them or not. Ron was always on the go doing something. He loved sports, travel, playing cards and games and holidays, but most of all he loved Rita and his extended family. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Restlawn Memorial Park in Coffeyville Visitation will be held on Friday, December 11, 2020 at David W Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.. The family suggests memorials to the USD 445 Ron Riggs Memorial; contributions can be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W Barnes Funeral Home 306 N Cline Rd. Coffeyville, KS 67337.
