Ruby Lee Owens, 107, of Coffeyville passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Windsor Place. She was born on February 12, 1913 at Dearing, Kansas to Elmer and Viva (Franklin) Coble. Ruby grew up in Dearing where she attended and graduated from the Dearing School system. On December 13, 1933 she and Carl Eugene Owens eloped. Their wedding date had been contingent upon Carl getting full-time employment at the National Refinery. On July 20, 1935 their first and only child, Larry Carl was born. Her husband Carl preceded her in death on January 7, 2009. Ruby loved to shop and was always on the lookout for a bargain. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and spending time with her grandchildren, and always looked forward to summer vacations in Colorado. Ruby had a standing house rule, "Anyone who sleeps under my roof Saturday night, attends church Sunday morning. Ruby was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville. Survivors include one son, Larry Owens and wife, Sue of Coffeyville; two grandchildren, Elaine Hayes of Manhattan, Kansas and Neil Sutter Owens of Danville, Illinois; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Viva Coble; her husband, Carl Owens; and one brother, Raymond Coble. A private family Graveside Service will be in Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Dick Smith of the First Baptist Church officiating. The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church; contributions may be left with or mailed in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
