Obituary of Thomas Harold DeTar

Thomas Harold “Tom” DeTar, 71, of Liberty, Kansas passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at CRMC in Coffeyville, Kansas. Tom was born on March 30, 1949 in Independence, Kansas to Harold and Jo (Maher) DeTar. He grew up in Liberty, Kansas and attended school in Altamont, Kansas where he graduated high school. He went on to attend classes at Independence Community College. Tom proudly served his country as a United States Marine for ten years as a Radio Technician. During his time in the service he met and married the love of his life, Isabell Diaz in Barstow, California. They lived on base at Camp Pendleton until 1975 then to Atlanta, Georgia until 1978. After receiving his honorable discharge the couple moved to Coffeyville, Kansas until 1986 when they moved to Liberty, Kansas. Tom was a hard worker and farmer. He spent his time farming crops such as corn, wheat and beans. His hobbies included H.A.M. Radios, shooting guns, hunting and most of all spending time surrounded by his family. Surviving to honor his memory is his loving wife, Isabell DeTar of the home; children, Michelle Williams of Nowata, Oklahoma, Michael DeTar of Wichita, Kansas, Joey DeTar and wife, Sandra of Kincaid, Kansas, Christina Evans and husband, Robert of Liberty, Kansas, Tina Sollenberger of Coffeyville, Kansas; thirteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sister, Theresa DeTar of Wichita, Kansas along with other extended relatives and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Jo DeTar; brothers, David and Anthony DeTar. Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Liberty Catholic Cemetery on Highway 169. Father Daniel Lorimer will officiate. Visitation will be held throughout the day on Monday, December 21, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. for friends and family to sign the guest register at David W Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
