Daniel A. Miranda, 90, of Coffeyville passed away Thursday, October 10, 2013, at Windsor Place.
He was born July 21, 1923, in Mexico to Joe and Leonor (Herrera) Miranda. Daniel came to the U.S. with his family at an early age. He attended Coffeyville schools graduating from Field Kindley High School and Coffeyville Community College.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army as a tech-corporal with the 8th Armored Division in the European Theater Operation.
On February 28, 1948, he married Marge Ann Shaw at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home Coffeyville until moving to California where they lived for many years, later moving to Albuquerque, NM where they lived until returning to Coffeyville. His wife preceded him in death on July 30, 2013.
Daniel was trained and worked as an aircraft sheet metal technician. He was proud of the fact that he helped build the Blackbird SR-71, a spy plane while at Lockheed Aviation in Burbank, CA.
He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church.
Survivors include one brothers, Jess Miranda; a nephew, Phillip Miranda; nieces, Sara Miranda Sanchez, and Tena Chavez all of Albuquerque, NM.; many cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife.
A Rosary Vigil Service followed by Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ben Nguyen officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call on Monday, October 14, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to Holy Name Catholic Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
