Mereda Kay, I am so sorry for your loss. I have so many memories and loved Gene like a father, as so many have. I will never forget the time he spent with me. He always made me feel special, as he did for so many. He was so whitty and so funny. When he would come to the lectureships at Oklahoma Christian, taking me out to lunch at Braums to get my $1.10 lunch (lol) was so special, then out to dinner later. To sit and listen to him call everyone, "Bill" was funny, but at times embarrassing (ha ha). Driving me around in Branson in the middle of an Ice Storm, spending time with me looking at antiques and last but not least taking me to Silver Dollar City for their Christmas season, was magical!! I love him so much and I am going to miss him dearly. I never made it out to Kansas, due to things I was dealing with, which makes me very sad. I will also never forget, when he showed up to my house in Edmond, late at night with that old Limo up on a trailer. He scared me so bad!!! All I could see was this huge square car outside and I thought a gang was after me from in the city!!!! I love you and cherish so many of the same memories with you. I know there are memories I am not remembering as well, but hopefully they will come to me. I love you and will be praying for you!

Here is just one example of the many warm memories of Gene that I hold close.
I had planned to give a special reading during my mother’s funeral. My emotions were too high at the last minute and Gene graciously agreed to take over. Gene gave the reading as if he’d written it himself, even adding a few words of his own. He then led everyone at the funeral in two verses of “You Are My Sunshine” which was my mother’s favorite song. That act of kindness meant so much to me and I thanked him many times over the years.
June 2020 in Iola was the last time the four of us got together for lunch.
In the parking lot while we were saying our “good-byes,” Gene mentioned my mother and began to sing “You Are My Sunshine.” We talked briefly about the funeral, but this time HE thanked me for asking him to step in that day.
What an amazing difference a single life can make!

I remember back in the late 50's and early 60's going to Coffeyville with my folks Ray and Mahalla Tucker to visit Uncle Fred, Aunt Edna and cousins Linda, Jim & Gene Tucker and other relatives and friends on South Willow. While everyone else was visiting on the porch, cousin Jim and Gene would grab a can of Aunt Edna's LARD out of the kitchen, dip a big handful, put it in their hair, slick it back and were ready for the night. Then we would go cruisin' 8th Street with Gene in his 33' Chevy Coupe, "The Orange Blossom Special" with everybody honking and waving at each other having a good time all night long. This was my first, but certainly not last experience with hot rodding and Gene Tucker. It was my last with LARD, though!
My best memory of Coffeyville and cousin Gene Tucker was actually coming back and still having those old time feelings and still feeling good about it. That is something I will never forget. Thanks cuz' for always being there.

We were so sorry to hear of Gene’s passing. We traveled the Midwest together in The Rising Suns, and as our road
Manager he kept us safe and arriving at the next “gig” on time. Many memories were made during those years and I know my fellow Rising Suns brothers will make sure Gene’s legacy will live on. Our prayers to Merida and family for strength and peace.

I was SO sorry to learn of Gene's death. He was a tremendous asset to all areas of Coffeyville: the College, the Brown Mansion, the Fair and Rodeo, and the hospital are just the first few that pop into my mind. I truly don't believe one could name any need in our area that did NOT benefit from the Tuckers' time, enthusiasm, and generosity..
I last saw him and Merida at the pre-Christmas festival at CCC. They were so happy - they loved being there, seeing people, and, of course, generously sharing some Christmas items with everyone..
My deepest sympathy to Merida and to all Gene's loved ones.

The last time I was with Gene was the last time the Rising Suns were to reunite for a concert in Coffeyville. I was to sit in with the band for that occasion. However, during rehearsal I received a phone call telling me of the tragic, unexpected death of my son-in-law. Gene was there to offer condolences and encouragement. He led in prayer for my family. I have been a baptist minister for over 40 years, but that day I needed the encouragement of Gene's words and prayer.
Over the years we shared quite a few stories and memories. Whenever I saw Gene, regardless of how many years had passed, it was like we just picked up where we left off. I'm thankful for the laughs, the tall tales and the memories I have of Gene.
Heartfelt condolences and prayers for Mereda and all of Gene's family.

It seems I have known of Gene for as long as I can remember but, it wasn’t until the winter of 2007, when I began working for him, that I really got to know the man behind the myth. Gene was bigger than life in a lot of ways but it was his heart that was bigger than most. I found him to be a God fearing man who wasn’t afraid to share the Word with anyone. He would burst into a hymn for no other reason than to glorify the Father. And the stories he regaled me with , will always be some of my best memories of him. Kind, generous, caring are some of the words that describe Gene. I always told him he was the best boss I ever had and it was true because he became a friend as well. To Kay and all of his extended family, extend my sincere condolences. May God give you comfort and peace in this time of transition.

Gene had a gift of lifting one's spirit with something witty or humorous. Because he had a wealth of knowledge about lots of different interests (cars, fighting fires, guns, sports, government just to name a few), it was always a treat to converse with him. He was one of my favorite conversationalists. I will forever remember his enthusiastic support for the Red Ravens; he was not only a loyal fan but an active supporter of the school's teams. He was truly a tremendous blessing to the Cox family, and all of us will miss him greatly.

Will miss this man. He was a great Brother-in-Law and a man you could count on for anything. We took several trips together for our family reunions. Many fun times and often great adventures. Mereda and I often planned little side trips on our way back East. Gene often grumbled at our suggestions, but I think he enjoyed them as much as we did. Of course Gene always managed to find the local Fire Station and always stopped to chat with the Firemen. Love you and you will be missed.

Cathy and I are praying for comfort and strength for the family during this difficult time. I will miss our visits, phone conversations, his stories, jokes and most of all his smiling face. Gene never met a stranger. I feel honored to have known Gene and be a part of his life. He will be truly missed. As he ended our conversations he would always refer to me as his brother from another mother.
Kay, please know if you need anything to let me know.

Gene is my cousin. As an only child I never felt like an only child due to the time I spent with Jim, Gene and Linda. He is a big part of my happy childhood. As an adult I knew that if I ever needed his help in any way he was there for me. I called him Big brother and he called me little Sis. He was loved by many and will be missed by many.
