Obituary of Kenneth Eugene Durst

Kenneth E. Durst, 70, of Caney passed away Friday, March 5, 2021 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
He was born on March 8, 1950 in Coffeyville to Eugene and Wilma (Sanders) Durst. Kenneth grew up and attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School in 1968. He continued his education at Coffeyville Community College.
Kenneth served in the National Guard, while serving he began working at Funk Mfg. in Coffeyville. In 1971 he went to work at Reda Pump in Bartlesville, Oklahoma where he was employed for 26 years. In 1997 he started his own company Big Chill Mfg. and operated it for 10 years, in 2006 he went to work at SEKTAM in Coffeyville where he was employed until retiring in 2016.
On March 17, 1973 he married Kimberly L. Cook in Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in Bartlesville for six years until moving to their current home in Caney area.
He loved restoring old tractors and cars, fishing, and looked forward to the annual float trip they took for several year.
Survivors include his wife, Kimberly Durst of the home; two sisters, Joyce Elliott of Claremore, Oklahoma, and Jane Warner of Inola, Oklahoma; his brothers-in law, Steve Cook and wife, Dena of Coffeyville, and Jay Cook and wife, Monica of Independence; nieces and nephews, Kriston Gerler of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Lacey Wyckoff and husband Dane of Inola, Oklahoma; Cody Cook of Randall Minnesota, Brandy Hamm of Edna, Lindsey Golden of Independence, and Andy Cook of Independence; eight great-nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Wilma Durst.
A Memorial Service celebrating Kenneth’s life will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday March 12th, at the Tyro Christian Church in Tyro with David Bycroft and Frank Brewster officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville.
Honorary Casket Bearers will be Jim Voelzke, John Voelzke, Bob Voelzke, Gary Friend, Steve Cook and Jay Cook.
Friends may sign the register book on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Coffeyville Friends of Animals; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
