Obituary of James Mark Barnard

James "Mark" Barnard, passed away at his home in South Coffeyville, OK, on March 19 2021. He was 57 years of age. Mark was born on February 4, 1964, in Coffeyville, to James "Jim" and Peggy (Ruark) Barnard. He attended Dearing Elementary School and graduated from Field Kindley High School. He later completed several extension courses related to computer programming to further his education. Mark was active in the band and played the trumpet. He loved to swim and worked as a lifeguard during the summers while in high school. After high school, Mark worked as a farm hand for a year in Western Kansas. He returned to Coffeyville to work with his dad on a new venture, Satellite City, where they sold and installed satellite dishes. In 1987 he went to work as a Junior Computer Programmer for National Electric, Inc. This was sold to Westinghouse Electric (Aptus, Inc) where Mark continued as a Senior Computer Programmer. In 1996, he moved to Sand Springs, OK, working for Commercial Financial Services and then Williams Communications Group in Tulsa where he was a Data Warehouse Integration Project Manager. In 2002, he returned to South Coffeyville, where he designed and developed five inventions for solar energy. He also worked with his dad at their family business, General Radiator. Mark loved to play pool and was a very talented pool player, winning many pool tournaments in Coffeyville and Tulsa. He helped his dad with the OK Car Club for many years doing whatever needed to be done to set up and put on a classic car show, including designing, printing and sending out flyers and loading and setting up equipment and polishing the car. He taught himself to play the keyboard and enjoyed playing classical music along with other music. He liked to sing, and enoyed cooking meals for his family. Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy, and his sister, Diane Barnard Ehart. Surviving to cherish his memory are his dad, James "Jim" (Susan Tuggle) Barnard of South Coffeyville; sister, Cheryl (John) Gillman of Rural Independence; brother, Mike (Vicki) Barnard of Ozark, MO; along with several nieces, nephews and close relatives and friends. A memorial service celebrating Mark's life will be held on Saturday, April 3 at 2:00PM at the Veteran's Memorial Patio in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may sign the register book on Friday, April 2nd from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. Memorial contributions can be made in Mark Barnard's memory to Coffeyville Friends of Animals; contributions may be left with or mailed in care David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, Ks 67337. Cremation will take place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
