Robert James "R.J." Price, Jr., 70, of rural Coffeyville, KS, passed away Thursday (March 1, 2007) at St. John's Medical, Tulsa, OK.
He was born January 7, 1937, at Eagle City, Oklahoma to Robert J. and Alma (Thompson) Price. He grew up and attended school in the Eagle City and Butler, OK, area attending elementary school in Eagle City and graduating from Butler High School in 1954. Following high school he attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Weatherford, OK where he received his Bachelor Degree in Education, he later received his Masters Degree from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Verdun, France.
One July 23, 1958, he married Carolyn Butler at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Following their marriage they lived in Sapulpa, OK and Lansing, Kansas where R.J. taught school. In 1988 they moved to Coffeyville where he was Principal at Dearing Elementary School, Longfellow School and later at Edgewood School. He retired in 1999. After retiring he enjoyed farming and ranching.
He was a member of Tyro Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn of the home; three sons, Steve and wife Tracy of Omaha, NE, Scott and wife Sonya of Siloam Springs, AR, and Allen and wife Angela of Coffeyville; seven grandchildren, Josh, Emily, Joe, Cody, Cooper, Paige, and Bailey; and three sisters, Rowena Jones of Clinton, OK, O'Reta Mitchell of Clinton, OK, and O'Leta Glenn and husband Wendyl of Sherman, TX.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday (March 5, 2007) in the Tyro Christian Church, Tyro, KS with David Bycroft officiating. Burial will be in Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville.
Friends may sign the register book from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday and Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, the casket will be closed.
The family suggests memorials to the Tyro Christian Church Building Fund; contributions may be left with the funeral home, or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N. Cline Rd., Coffeyville, KS 67337.
