Stephen Ralph Melton, 53, of Coffeyville, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2008 at St. Francis Medical Center in Tulsa, OK from injuries received in an automobile accident.
He was born October 4, 1953 at Nowata, OK, to Ralph and Carol (Crupper) Melton. He grew up in several different states and Germany where his father was stationed while serving in the U.S. Army. He moved to the Coffeyville area with his family in the early 1970's.
Stephen was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge he returned to the Montgomery County area.
He married Flossie Ross, they were later separated.
He was a member of the V.F.W. in Cherryvale and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Flossie of Dodge City, KS; two sons, Stephen Anthony (Michelle) Melton of Independence, KS, and Marty Ross of Columbus, KS;
three brothers, Jim Melton of Elk City, KS, Ralph I. Melton of Salina, KS, and Perry Melton of Hannibal, MO; two sisters, Nancy Lawyer of Bartlesville, OK, and Peggy Zillifro of Coffeyville; and nine grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, KS. Military Honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard, Fort Riley, KS.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
