Ronald Ray Rooks, 65, of Coffeyville passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. He was born on November 18, 1955 at Coffeyville to Harris and Virginia (DeLaughder) Rooks. Ron's dad died in a work accident three months before he was born. Ron grew up and attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School. When Ron was young he became interested in law enforcement, which led him to complete the requirements and attend the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center at Hutchinson, Kansas. After graduating he worked for the Montgomery County Sheriff Department. On June 27, 1992 he married the love of his life Jacqueline McCoy at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they moved to Eureka, Kansas where Ron served as Chief of Police, they later moved to Council Grove, Kansas where he was Chief of Police. They later returned to Coffeyville when Ron accepted a position with the Montgomery County Sheriff Department. Ron retired from the Sheriff Department after many years of service and accepted a position with the City of Caney as Assistant Chief of Police where he worked several years until retiring due to his health. Ron grew up attending the church of Christ in Coffeyville. He was a member of the Kansas Police Officers Association. He loved serving the people in the communities he served and was always trying to help others. Survivors include his wife, Jacque of the home; his children, Joey, Damon, John David, Robbie, Jesse, Jenny, Randy, Kitra, and Cody; his sister, Melissa (Jesse) Jones; sixteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren and numerous Brothers in Blue. He was preceded in death by his father, Harris Rooks; his mother and step-father, Virginia and Clyde Waltrip; and brother, Kenneth Rooks. Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at the Coffeyville church of Christ. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call on Tuesday, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Age to Age Kindergarten at Windsor Place or a Law Enforcement Memorial for Montgomery County that is being established ; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
